Importance of Children’s Nutrition – Radcliffe School Dighi guest lecture
Radcliffe School, Dighi, recently organized a special lecture on the importance of food for students. Delivered by Dr. Amrut Jadhav, a well-known B.A.M.S. practitioner, the session titled “Food: Our Basic Need” helped students gain an early understanding of nutrition and wellness.
1. Why Food Matters to a Student?
Food as the ground for education
Food isn’t fuel – it’s the foundation of energy, growth, and immunity – especially for young brains. Dr Jadhav noted how the right food choices reaffirm memory, another critical aspect to focus on:” concentration and performance in school or sport.
Energy, Growth, and Immunity
It means no cooking. No breakfast, or lunch, or dinner,” he expanded, that food offers us:
- Energy to focus and participate actively
- Growth support for developing muscles, bones, and tissues
- Protection through vitamins and minerals that strengthen immunity
These concepts were exemplified with illustrations from day-to-day existence, connecting a student’s timetable to the petrol that fuels a motor vehicle.
2. Key Takeaways for Students
Types and Sources of Food
Dr Jadhav introduced students to dietary staples:
- Carbohydrates for energy
- Proteins for growth and repair
- Fats for stored energy
- Vitamins and minerals for overall protection
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Foods
He tackled the natural versus processed food conundrum, too. School pupils discovered that fresh food is healthier than crisps and fizzy drinks.
3. Encouraging healthy eating from a young age
Simple Steps for Smarter Eating
Dr Jadhav provided advice on how to eat healthily. Among them…
- Never skipping breakfast
- Drinking enough water throughout the day
- Limiting processed snacks and sweets
- Eating seasonal fruits and vegetables
These were easy to digest and about everyday choices that students made, especially with their lunch boxes and at home.
Student Interaction and Curiosity
“Was this a best seller?” students rushed to ask him and tell him about their diets. Dr Jadhav tolerated questions and repeated that food impacts everything from mood to body strength.
